PECOS 2009, ACTIVITIES

Reception/Registration: The Conference Registration will be at the Cortez Cultural Center from 3:00PM to 7:00PM and the Reception will run from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Thursday, August 6.  

 

Book Sales: Book sales will begin at 8:00 AM on Friday in the Vendor Tent. They will continue at the same location throughout the Conference. 

 

Food Sales: Hot and cold drinks as well as light breakfast and lunch items will be available during the Conference. 

 

Kids Activities: The Pecos Planning Committee may provide activities for the children between the ages of 8 and 13. These will only be provided if there is interest from parents. Organizers will review the Registration Form to determine if there is sufficient interest in this activity.   

 

Rock Move:  There will be a demonstration of moving a heavy stone using primitive technology.  The demonstration will be lead by Vince Lee, an architect and archaeological researcher, who has studied prehistoric techniques for moving large rocks.  More information will be posted as it becomes available.

 

Presentation by Craig Childs:  Friday evening at 7:00PM Craig Childs, well known author with a special interest in archaeology and the Southwest, will make a special presentation limited to Conference participants. This event will take place in the Presentation Tent.

 

Job Fair: On Saturday afternnon between 2:00PM and 4:00PM anyone either offering or seeking employment should meet in the Vendor Tent. Job openings or resumes can be posted in the poster section.

 

Beer Garden:  Saturday afternoon, following the presentations, the beer garden will open and stay open through the evening.  Tickets for beer, wine and other beverages will be sold on site. It is hoped that a home brewed beer tasting can be organized.

 

Saturday Night Dinner and Dance: The Conference dinner will begin between 6:00 and 6:30 on Saturday evening.  Two menus will be offered.  One will feature pork that will be roasted on site, and the other will feature a vegetarian entrĂ©e.  The Registration Form includes a place to make dinner reservations. Dancing will begin after dinner. For those who do not want to attend the dinner, the Registration Form  contains a  place to make reservations for the dance only.
